News / Team Fortress 2 Server will close down
20 January 2021, 11:44:30 AM
Hello dear people,

After 8 years I'm throwing the towel in the ring and will close down the Team Fortress 2 server. I started this server in januari 2013 to host my own custom maps as I had become a fan of mapping in Valve's Source Engine and had really a blast. I spent a lot of time in high school building and programming custom maps and game modes, such as a soccer map and loads of other things. Punisher and I spent hours trying out all these maps and had a blast. But to all good things come an end. Most of the custom maps were lost during a HDD crash 5 years ago and I do not have the time nowadays to do any more mapping. Also, the server never really took off and I feel like I'm paying for dead weight.

I may not totally quit mapping, because I am passionate about it, but the server isn't very likely to come back as is. Instead I will very likely trade it in for a Battlefield 1942 server, but not under the WBS flag. As of now we're having plans of reuniting parts of the old ¥FOXES¥ Clan. If some guys are still interested in the game, some of us still play regularly and current plans lead to a 20 slots Desert Combat server. If you want to be involved or stay in touch, let me know!

I haven't seen anyone complaining lately. Aren't you just attention whoring?

This might help you out. I haven't tried it nor read it, so feel free to give it a go  O0
Judging by the looks of it, it might not be as easy as adding bot support to Source maps

Someone came in and raped my sister and burned down my stone house on the server
Since when is stone combustible?
Pretty sure this topic is faux.

I doubt this'll actually work. The goal is 100 supporters, but I don't really think 100 signers is that convincing for the owners. Let alone the current 35 signers.

Puni didn't choose a target of 100 signatures, I think it is just pointing out the next milestone.

Here is what I wrote on the bf league forum about the petition.

QuoteWe know that the xfire client is scheduled to be shutdown on Friday and that this petition won't change that.

So, what can this petition change? Well, we believe that if in a few months time from now the xfire tournament platform is not proving popular the company could be persuaded by a petition to bring back the xfire client.
In the end it is the classic XFIRE that made them famous anyway, us, the users of the at that time popular tool. I mean, many companies tried to use the same concept (overwolf I'm looking at you).

But I don't think XFIRE would attract that much attention in its current state. Services like Steam are just a little more appealing to the mainstream. Maybe an overhaul and a giant kickstart* in the rear could save xfire, who knows?
(*: not an actual kickstarter project and begging for money, but the method of starting an internal combustion engine by kicking a lever)

Maybe it is just destined to die, just like ye ol' Battlefield 1942

EDIT: Signed anyway

My parents were in Europe for 2 weeks on a cruise, so I binge played Skyrim for 100 hours :P But mostly I'm playing WoT and AW
Is AW any fun? Looks like it's going to be the next big thing next to WoT (incase their copy-cat concept works)  :))

i would rather use email than fkin steam
Don't be so rude. Steam has to be the best invention since bread and the nuclear bomb
all jokes aside, it's cheap games + xfire-esque communications platforms combined with alot of other neat features. Saying you will never use steam is stabbing yourself in the back  :-\

Quotewe have decided to sunset the Xfire Client and the social site so we can focus our efforts on The Xfire Tournament Platform.

I've heard people saying it is going to be shutdown this Friday  :'(
That's really sad news, and it almost feels like they sold out. They gained fame through us, the original xfire users. But what is up with that Tournament thing? What is it even? Why would they rather focus on that than on us?  :o
R.I.P. good ol' memories I guess. Alot of nostalgia is about to die
